Canadian Stone Carving Festival, Ottawa, ON
The following event information has been provided by organizer Danny Barber:
This two day event will take place August 4,5&6, 2012 in conjunction with the Rideau Canal Festival in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is modeled after the European Stone carving festivals that take place every year, all over the EU. Carvers are given a piece of stone approximately 9”x12”x14” to carve over the course of the weekend using only hand tools. The pieces will be auctioned off at 1:00 pm on the 6th. Your experience level is not important but you must have your own kit. I always like to stress that this a festival, not a competition. The goal is to grow a craft fellowship regardless of experience and who you work for, while educating the pubic on what we do. Greater public awareness will mean more opportunities to do what we do.
We are working on a theme for this year. Leaning towards the five Nations that built the Rideau canal. First Nations, French, Irish, Scottish and British.
We’ll start carving Saturday morning and end around 5pm. Saturday night we’ll be treated to dinner at a local restaurant. We are working out accommodations for out of towners. Sunday will be the same format as Saturday and the Auction will take place Monday.
Registration is $35.00
